The mission of The Forgotten Ones, Inc., is to provide relief for disadvantaged young adults and families who need assistance with basic human needs. The agency includes The Vine Outreach Thrift Store and The Resource Center. Proceeds from The Vine Outreach Thrift Store assist with funding program services in The Resource Center, where client services are provided. These services help those we serve to become self-sufficient, stable, and productive members of our community.
What sets us apart from similar organizations is our inclusiveness, charity and resource sharing. We do not turn anyone away, regardless of age/need, if we have the capacity to assist, and the client is ready, we will help. So far in 2014, The Resource Center has provided direct services for 394 individual unduplicated clients. We also donate surplus goods locally and provide ministry relief to Haiti and Africa. In order to serve our clients with basic needs to promote self-sufficiency we provide the following services: emergency food, emergency financial assistance, emergency clothing, help obtaining social security cards, birth certificates, driver?s licenses, applying for food stamps and Medicaid, job assistance and Workforce programs, bus passes, and assistance applications for free eyeglasses and free cell phones.

How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Our agency was founded by Ms. Cindy Cook in 2007. Ms. Cook began The Forgotten Ones, Inc. because of her strong ties to the City of Oviedo and her service for 11 years as Guardian Ad Litem for the State of Florida District Courts. She has worked with disadvantaged youth and foster care services for over 20 years.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We believe in giving a hand up not a hand out. We want to educate others and enable them to become self-sufficient not dependant. We take the extra steps to assure that individuals that are really wanting to better their life can. With the help of a good support system,caring hearts, and Jesus, we invest not just the necessities of living but time, love and encouragement into the lives of these young adults.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one location in downtown Oviedo, Florida. Yes we would like to build the Shiloh Ranch, a transition house for young adults that have no place to stay, that may need counseling or rehab.
